Alamut: the garrison of the Assassins

The ruins of the mountain fortress of Alamut is located in the arid hills south of the Caspian Sea, near Qazvin, in the mountains of Aborz, about 100 km from the city of Tehran in Iran . The complex of buildings has the source, according to Hamdollah Mostowfi, in the year 840, at 2100m above sea level. The fort was the only access only on the peak, for that reason was unassailable. In 1090 it was invaded and occupied by Hashshashins sovereign. At that time lived a huge development and became known under the name Assassins. He was best known for the gardens, its library and its unusual system of water supply. In 1256, 15 December, was destroyed by the Mongol ruler Hulagu Khan, Mongol as part of the offensive against the south-west Asia. The fortress was impregnable in itself, but RUKN Khor-al-Din Shah surrendered without a real fight, in the vain hope that Hulagu would be merciful.

The word "murderess" refers to the term commonly used to identify the Nizar, or the members of the Ismaili movement founded by Hasan-i Sabbah which, Islamic age of the Crusades in the East, gave rise to a peculiar state experience to Alamut in the mountains west-central Iran. The murderess was used in the Christian name to designate the followers of the old grand master of the mountain or the murderers, which the Imam had to obey. The name derives from hashishiyyin, (follower of Hasan) but some argue that this term alludes to the alleged use of hashish which would serve the old man of the mountain to cause the intoxication of his faithful. This organization was an offshoot of the Shiite-Muslim heretics founded by the Persian Hasan al-Sabbah, who, at first a supporter of the Fatimids of Egypt, became a follower of Nizar's brother and their chief rival, musta'li: he, placing himself at the head of the Persian Ismailis, established in 1090 its base in the fortress of Alamut in the North / East Qazwini (East Persia), rigidly organized the sect and successfully fought the kings orthodox Muslims, especially the Seljuks.
Hasan died in 1124, the sect further perfected his heretical dogmas, losing, however, power gradually, until it was destroyed by the Mongol Hulagu Khan in 1256 and the last of the murderers, RUKN ad-Din, was sentenced to death. The sect counted up to 60,000 members. One of its branches had extended to Syria, dominating emporiums as Aleppo, Apamea, starch, mixed with the routes between Muslims and Crusaders, siding for these hours for those hours, using the methods established by the founder of political murder (hence the modern name of murderess in the sense of murder). Although this branch, however, finally fell in 1273, the work of Baibars, sultan of Egypt. The most comprehensive news on the old mountain and murders there are, among the Western sources, in The Marco Polo's.

the sect of the Assassins, unamisteriosa adored deity called Baphomet. For some, the Baphomet was none other than the Holy Grail, before being vanquished, the Assassins had entrusted to the Knights Templars, who had led France in the mid-twelfth century, and the rest Wolfram had baptized "Templeisen" the knights who guarded the Holy Grail in the castle of King Anfortas.
If things had gone really well, now the Holy Grail is among the legendary treasure of the Knights Templar (never found) in some basement of a castle.

In support of this proposition are given letters Roncelin de Fos (Master of Provence) to Richard de Vichiers site http://www.templaricavalieri.it/setta_assassini.htm .

With the Old Man of the Mountain title for the Crusaders showed the "Sheikh-el-Jebel," or the "Lord of the Mountain", Grand Master of a mysterious and charismatic leader of Ismaili sect, whose members, the "Fidawi" were known as "Assassins."

This term entered the common language to describe those who commit murder, is inferred from the name of 'Hachisch "drug at that time was already used in the East.
is said, in fact, that the Lord of the Mountain, using this drug, drugged his followers, and they did deliver in a beautiful garden, where he awoke, among flowers and perfumes, surrounded by the most desirable women, the memory of this experience Paradise, lived in a state of semi-consciousness, had to give the certainty of reward after death and determine, therefore, a total indifference to life, where the killers face death without fear and pain, even with joy.
The Lord of the Mountain had then an army of loyal followers, perpetrators passive, but fearsome and unstoppable, his will, and made a systematic use, especially to murder political opponents and religious.
But beyond these aspects unedifying, but sadly today, a political practice based on the use of murder-suicide, the story of the Mountain of the Lord is very attractive to some aspects of initiation and the character relationships, not at all hostile to the sect of the Assassins had with the Order of the Knights Templar.
The founder of the sect was well-Hassan Sabbah, the son of a Persian merchant and fellow student Nishapur to the famous poet Omar Khayyam. After being involved in political intrigue that forced him to flee quickly, he met an old Hassan Ismaili, who began the "Doctrine of the Right Path", bringing it into "Sebayah", the "Sect of Seven," which he recognized as the seventh and Last Iman, Ismael, the son of Jafar as-Sadik, the sixth Shiite Imam.
The sect, which had an initiatory character, was divided into seven degrees, which was gradually revealed a secret doctrine, based on knowledge of the hidden meanings of sacred texts. In Cairo, Hassan was initiated to the highest degree, and it seems that here was aware of the secrets related to the use of 'hachisch.
Having fled to Cairo, and after a long journey, arrived at Rudbar, in the mountains south of the Caspian Sea, and here they took possession of the fortress of Alamut (Iran), the "Eagles Nest", which became the center of his power, and whose name is also interpreted as "the Eagle Course."
